Baltic-American Freedom Foundation

Business background, services, and goals

The mission of the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation is to enrich the ties between the United States and Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania through programs of education and exchange centring on economic growth and democratic processes. The fund invests in the human resources of the Baltics, offering promising students and scientists scholarship programs, which enable them to get support for traineeships and research work in the United States.

What challenges or needs did you face that led you to look for a solution like Workland?

Due to the nature of the work, I needed representative office space in the City Centre of Tallinn, one that was also available for lease only on certain days in a month, and the solution offered by Workland proved to be ideally suited to my needs. A decisive factor was also the availability of traditional services supporting the work at the office.

How is Workland helping your business on a daily basis?

First, Workland charms one with its location; also, the atmosphere here supports professional work. I am very happy with the opportunity to focus 100% on my work, free of any distractions. Whenever I need to clear my head, I can always head to the kitchen and chat with the representatives of other companies.

Depending on your own specific needs when looking for a space, what are the main advantages and disadvantages of Workland Hobujaama compared to other similar office spaces?

Workland provides privacy in the form of work premises; however, the so-called open space (like the big kitchen) brings together the employees of different companies in Workland, thereby providing the opportunity for pleasant conversation and the exchanging of ideas.

What are three words that describe your experience at Workland?

  1. Professionalism

  2. Modernity

  3. Friendliness

What other types of businesses would you encourage to move into Workland?

I encourage companies that are looking for a modern yet cosy office in the City Centre of Tallinn to move into WorkLand and, with the other companies operating in WorkLand and their employees offering added value and new acquaintances.

Workland is a way to work without getting stuck between monotonous walls. Continuous movement inspires both creativity and your own mobility. I chose it for its accessibility by my favorite means of transportation - walking, the ability to change spaces, a professionally run administration, and a certain emotional connection to the space on Didžioji Street - once, when there was a cinema, my grandfather, whom I never got to know, worked here. Sometimes, climbing the stairs, I think he climbed them too.

Meet Nigel Goodman from Workland Vabaduse centre. Nigel runs a company called Gaea. “Gaea was established in the UK in 1994 as a consultancy, so I’m the oldest start-up in Estonia!” explains Nigel, who moved to Estonia from Sweden, tired of its "oh-so-slow bureaucracy". He chose Estonia after reading about our digital economy and the ease of starting a company. Coming to scope out Tallinn he found a good vegan community and joined a Climate LaunchPad Team the same weekend.
